The Be/x-ray Binary Swift J1626.6−5156 as a Cyclotron Line Source
نویسنده
چکیده
Swift J1626.6−5156 is a Be/X-ray binary that was in outburst from December 2005 until November 2008. We have examined RXTE/PCA and HEXTE spectra of three long observations of this source taken early in its outburst, when the PCA 2− 20 keV count rate was > 70 counts sPCU, as well as several combined observations from different stages of the source’s life. The spectra are best fit with an absorbed cut-off power law with a ∼ 6.4 keV iron emission line and a Gaussian optical depth absorption line at ∼ 10 keV. We present strong evidence that this absorption feature is actually a cyclotron resonance scattering feature, making Swift J1626.6−5156 a new candidate cyclotron line source. The redshifted energy of ∼ 10 keV implies a magnetic field strength of ∼ 8.6(1+z)×1011G in the region of the accretion column close to the magnetic poles where the cyclotron line is produced. Phase-resolved spectroscopy reveals the second harmonic of the fundamental cyclotron line. There is a significant positive correlation between the fundamental cyclotron energy and the source luminosity.

A broadband self - consistent modelling of the X - ray spectrum of 4 U 1626 – 67
The accretion-powered X-ray pulsar 4U 1626–67 is one of the few highly magnetized pulsars that accretes through Roche-lobe overflow from a low-mass companion. The characteristics of its broadband spectrum are similar to those of X-ray pulsars hosted in a high-mass X-ray binary systems, with a broad resonant cyclotron scattering feature (CRSF) at∼ 37 keV. In this work, we examine the pulse-resol...
متن کاملMultiwavelength study of the transient X - ray binary IGR J 01583 + 6713
We have investigated multiband optical photometric variability and stability of the Hα line profile of the transient X-ray binary IGR J01583+6713. We set an upper limit of 0.05 mag on photometric variations in the V band over a time scale of 3 months. The Hα line is found to consist of non-Gaussian profile and quite stable for a duration of 2 months. We have identified the spectral type of the ...
متن کاملGRB060602B = Swift J1749.4-2807: an unusual transiently accreting neutron-star X-ray binary
We present an analysis of the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) and X-ray telescope (XRT) data of GRB060602B, which is most likely an accreting neutron star in a binary system and not a gamma-ray burst. Our analysis shows that the BAT burst spectrum is consistent with a thermonuclear flash (type I X-ray burst) from the surface of an accreting neutron star in a binary system. The X-ray binary na...
متن کاملCylotron line models for the X - ray pulsar A 0535 + 26
The spectrum of the transient X-ray binary pulsar A0535+26 obtained by OSSE in February 1994 shows an absorption feature at 110 keV but does not confirm a feature at around 55 keV, as previously reported by other instruments. If the 110 keV feature is due to cyclotron scattering at the first harmonic, then the magnetic field required is about 10 Gauss, the highest observed in an X-ray pulsar. C...
متن کاملINTEGRAL and Swift observations of EXO 2030+375 during a giant outburst
Aims. We investigate the X-ray spectral and timing properties of the high mass X-ray binary EXO 2030+375 observed during its June–September 2006 giant (type II) outburst. Methods. The data analyzed in this work are from partly simultaneous observations with INTEGRAL and Swift. The pulse period P and its temporal derivative Ṗ are measured. X-ray pulse profiles in different energy ranges and time...
